New technology center created to host computers on perimeter walls while keeping the center space available for group projects, collaborative learning and STEAM activities.
As a component of a iLab Innovation lab project for San Francisco Unified School District, the math department of Denman Middle School created this unique math classroom to teach math and STEM projects. The iLab initiative is a physical space, a process, and a curriculum that fosters innovation across our organization so that all of our students graduate ready to thrive in the 21st century. It leverages human centered design as a signature practice to build environments and practices that serve all of our students and their adult allies.

Project Description
Working with grants from local businesses, this space was converted from two classrooms to create a technology lab for makerspace and other SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING ART AND MATH (STEAM) projects. Several classes can use the space at a time, and it was orchestrated to feature mobile-modular furniture as well as vibrant colors.
The K-5 Makery is a design collaboration of the Maranatha Elementary school teachers and their Principal Mary Cook. All elementary students rotate through the Makery with their class on a weekly basis and a Science teacher was hired to run the makerspace and collaborate with the teachers to integrate their STEAM curriculum. The colorful tables and task chairs serve an important function to help organize the students into collaborative small groups.
