Whitney Brothers Limited Furniture Warranty Summary

D&D Learning Spaces is a Whitney Brothers dealer. Whitney Brothers manufactures early-learning and educational furniture for classrooms, libraries, childcare centers and other institutional environments.

Whitney Brothers provides two principal manufacturer warranties:

  • A lifetime limited warranty for qualifying indoor furniture manufactured after January 1, 2012
  • A 15-year limited warranty for qualifying outdoor furniture

Both warranties are non-transferable, apply only to the original purchaser and begin on the date of shipment. Certain accessories and components not manufactured by Whitney Brothers may have shorter, product-specific warranty periods.

What Does Whitney Brothers’ Lifetime Limited Warranty Mean?

Whitney Brothers’ lifetime limited indoor-furniture warranty means that qualifying indoor products manufactured by Whitney Brothers after January 1, 2012 are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product, beginning on the date of shipment.

For customers, this means that Whitney Brothers may repair or replace a covered indoor product, part or component if it fails during intended use because of a qualifying defect in its original materials or workmanship.

The lifetime warranty:

  • Applies only to indoor furniture manufactured by Whitney Brothers
  • Applies only to new products purchased from an authorized Whitney Brothers dealer
  • Protects the original purchaser
  • Is non-transferable
  • Begins on the date of shipment
  • Applies to qualifying products manufactured after January 1, 2012
  • Remains subject to proper assembly, installation, use and maintenance

A lifetime warranty does not mean that the furniture will remain free from normal signs of use indefinitely. It covers manufacturing and material defects—not ordinary aging, cosmetic wear, environmental damage or routine maintenance needs.

Who Is Covered?

Whitney Brothers’ warranty applies to the original purchaser who acquires a new product through an authorized Whitney Brothers dealer, such as D&D Learning Spaces.

The warranty is non-transferable. It does not pass to another school, organization, owner or purchaser if the furniture is sold, donated or otherwise transferred.

Customers should retain:

  • The original D&D Learning Spaces invoice
  • The purchase-order number
  • The Whitney Brothers product or item number
  • The shipment or delivery date
  • Product labels and identification information
  • Photographs of the furniture
  • Assembly and installation records, when available

These records can help establish original ownership, product identity and warranty eligibility.

What Is Covered?

Whitney Brothers’ warranties cover qualifying defects in:

  • Original materials
  • Manufacturing
  • Workmanship
  • Products, parts and components manufactured by Whitney Brothers
  • Covered indoor furniture used as intended
  • Covered outdoor furniture used under reasonable outdoor conditions

Coverage applies when the furniture has been properly assembled, installed, used and maintained according to Whitney Brothers’ published instructions.

If Whitney Brothers determines that a covered product or component has failed because of a defect in materials or workmanship, it may, at its sole discretion:

  • Repair the defective product
  • Repair the defective part or component
  • Replace the defective product
  • Replace the defective part or component

Whitney Brothers determines whether repair or replacement is the appropriate remedy.

What Is Not Covered?

Whitney Brothers’ warranties do not cover damage, deterioration or product failure caused by:

  • Normal wear and tear
  • Misuse
  • Abuse
  • Neglect
  • Accidents
  • Improper application
  • Improper assembly
  • Improper installation
  • Failure to follow factory instructions
  • Improper use
  • Improper maintenance
  • Unauthorized modifications
  • Unauthorized repairs
  • Extreme or prolonged environmental exposure
  • Conditions beyond reasonable indoor or outdoor use
  • Commercial loss
  • Inconvenience
  • Incidental or consequential damages

Normal wear is not considered a defect in original materials or workmanship.

Product-Specific Warranty Periods

Whitney Brothers separates its warranty coverage into indoor and outdoor furniture categories. Certain components and accessories not manufactured by Whitney Brothers may carry separate limited warranties that must be confirmed on the individual product page.

Qualifying Indoor Furniture — Lifetime Limited Warranty

Indoor furniture manufactured by Whitney Brothers after January 1, 2012 carries a non-transferable lifetime limited warranty from the date of shipment.

Coverage applies to qualifying defects in materials and workmanship under intended indoor use.

To qualify, indoor furniture must:

  • Be properly assembled
  • Be installed according to Whitney Brothers’ instructions
  • Be used according to its intended purpose
  • Be maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions
  • Be used under normal conditions
  • Be located in an indoor educational or institutional setting

Failure to follow the factory assembly instructions voids the warranty.

Qualifying Outdoor Furniture — 15-Year Limited Warranty

Outdoor furniture manufactured by Whitney Brothers carries a non-transferable 15-year limited warranty from the date of shipment.

Coverage applies to qualifying defects in materials and workmanship when the product is used under normal conditions for its intended purpose in an outdoor educational or institutional environment.

The 15-year warranty does not cover every change associated with outdoor exposure. Ordinary weathering, color changes and surface wear are expected characteristics of furniture used outdoors.

Indoor Accessories and Third-Party Components — Product-Specific Limited Warranty

Certain indoor-furniture components and accessories not manufactured by Whitney Brothers may have shorter, separate warranty periods.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Trays
  • Cushions
  • Upholstered parts
  • Casters
  • Hinges
  • Hardware
  • Plastic bins
  • Metal bins
  • Tubs
  • Shelf brackets
  • Electrical components
  • Lighting

Whitney Brothers does not publish one universal warranty period for all of these items. The applicable term must be confirmed by searching the individual product number on the Whitney Brothers website and reviewing the product’s INFO tab.

Outdoor Accessories and Third-Party Components — Product-Specific Limited Warranty

Certain outdoor components and accessories not manufactured by Whitney Brothers may also carry separate limited warranties.

Examples include:

  • Plastic trays
  • Metal trays
  • Plastic bins
  • Metal bins
  • Tubs

The warranty period for these components must be checked on the individual product listing under the INFO tab.

Indoor Furniture Requirements

Whitney Brothers’ lifetime warranty applies only to qualifying furniture intended for indoor educational or institutional environments.

Indoor products must be protected from extreme or extended environmental conditions, including:

  • High humidity
  • Extreme heat
  • Water exposure
  • Other conditions beyond normal indoor use

Furniture must be properly assembled, installed and maintained according to the published instructions. Improper assembly—including failure to follow the factory instructions—voids the warranty.

Outdoor Furniture Requirements

Whitney Brothers outdoor furniture must be used under normal conditions for its intended purpose in an outdoor educational or institutional setting.

Although these products are intended for exterior use, the warranty does not cover exposure beyond reasonable outdoor conditions, such as:

  • Severe storms
  • Floods
  • Prolonged submersion in water
  • Other extreme environmental events

Outdoor furniture should be routinely inspected, properly maintained and used only in applications appropriate for the product.

Normal Wear and Aging of Indoor Furniture

Whitney Brothers does not cover ordinary changes that occur through regular indoor use over time.

Examples include:

  • Fading or discoloration of finishes caused by sunlight or age
  • Minor scratches
  • Minor dents
  • Surface abrasions from daily use
  • Normal loosening of fasteners
  • Periodic tightening of hardware
  • Normal aging of fabric
  • Normal aging or compression of foam
  • Natural changes in wood grain

These conditions are considered normal wear or maintenance matters unless they result from a qualifying defect in materials or workmanship.

Normal Weathering and Aging of Outdoor Furniture

Whitney Brothers’ outdoor warranty does not cover ordinary weathering or surface changes caused by normal exterior use.

Examples include:

  • Color fading caused by sunlight
  • Weathering caused by rain
  • Finish changes caused by temperature fluctuations
  • Minor surface scratches
  • Minor dents
  • Daily-use abrasions
  • Normal loosening of hardware or joints
  • Periodic tightening of outdoor hardware
  • Natural variations in material color
  • Natural finish changes caused by exposure to the elements

These changes do not automatically indicate a manufacturing or material defect.

Writable Surface Damage

The indoor-furniture warranty specifically excludes damage to writable surfaces when the damage is caused by misuse, abuse, neglect, an accident or improper application.

Examples that may not qualify for coverage include:

  • Permanent-marker use
  • Scratching
  • Cutting
  • Use of abrasive cleaners
  • Use of unsuitable chemicals
  • Excessive impact
  • Failure to follow cleaning instructions

A defect originating in the writable surface material may be considered differently from damage caused after delivery, but Whitney Brothers makes the final coverage determination.

Upholstery, Cushions and Foam

Cushions and upholstered components not manufactured by Whitney Brothers may carry separate limited warranty periods.

Normal aging of fabric and foam is excluded from the lifetime indoor-furniture warranty. This may include:

  • Upholstery fading
  • Ordinary fabric wear
  • Soiling
  • Staining
  • Cushion compression
  • Wrinkling
  • Changes caused by sunlight or age
  • Damage caused by improper cleaning

The exact warranty for an upholstered product or cushion should be verified on the individual product page.

Casters, Hinges and Hardware

Casters, hinges and hardware not manufactured by Whitney Brothers may carry product-specific limited warranties rather than lifetime coverage.

In addition, normal loosening of fasteners or outdoor joints is considered routine wear and maintenance. Customers should inspect furniture periodically and tighten loose fasteners as needed.

A hardware problem caused by a manufacturing defect may qualify, while normal loosening through repeated use generally does not.

Electrical Components and Lighting

Electrical components and lighting not manufactured by Whitney Brothers may carry separate limited warranties.

Because the warranty periods can vary by product and supplier, customers should review the INFO tab for the exact item number.

Damage caused by misuse, improper application, unauthorized modification or failure to follow the product instructions may not qualify for coverage.

Proper Assembly, Installation and Maintenance

To preserve warranty eligibility, Whitney Brothers furniture must be:

  • Assembled according to the published instructions
  • Installed correctly
  • Used for its intended educational or institutional purpose
  • Maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions
  • Used under normal conditions
  • Protected from misuse and abuse
  • Kept free from unauthorized modifications and repairs

Improper assembly—including failure to follow factory instructions—voids the warranty.

Customers should contact D&D Learning Spaces before:

  • Modifying the furniture
  • Drilling into a product
  • Adding nonstandard hardware
  • Replacing structural components
  • Performing a repair
  • Altering an electrical component
  • Changing the product’s intended application

Repairs or modifications performed by a party not authorized by Whitney Brothers are excluded from coverage.

Freight, Labor and Other Service Costs

Whitney Brothers’ warranty remedy is limited to repair or replacement of the qualifying defective product or component.

Whitney Brothers is not responsible for other expenses, including:

  • Labor
  • Freight
  • Loss of use
  • Commercial loss
  • Inconvenience
  • Incidental damages
  • Consequential damages

Customers may therefore be responsible for shipping, installation, removal, reassembly or other service costs associated with a warranty repair or replacement.

What Will Whitney Brothers Do for an Approved Claim?

If Whitney Brothers determines that a product, part or component has failed under normal use because of a qualifying defect in materials or workmanship, it may, at its sole discretion:

  • Repair the defective product
  • Repair the defective part
  • Repair the defective component
  • Replace the defective product
  • Replace the defective part
  • Replace the defective component

The customer does not automatically have the right to choose between repair and replacement. Whitney Brothers determines the appropriate remedy under the applicable warranty.

Warranty Claim Requirements

A Whitney Brothers warranty claim should include enough information to establish original ownership, product identity and the nature of the reported defect.

Customers should be prepared to provide:

  • Proof of purchase
  • The original invoice
  • The purchase-order number
  • The product item number
  • The shipment or delivery date
  • A detailed description of the problem
  • A photograph of the complete product
  • Close-up photographs of the affected area
  • Photographs of product labels
  • Assembly and installation information
  • Maintenance information
  • Details about the product’s indoor or outdoor environment
  • Information about any previous repairs or modifications
  • Photographs of related accessories or components

For components not manufactured by Whitney Brothers, the individual product listing should be reviewed to identify the applicable warranty period before the claim is submitted.
