VS America 12-Year Limited Warranty Summary

D&D Learning Spaces is an authorized VS America dealer. VS America backs its educational and commercial furniture with a 12-year limited warranty, with separate warranty periods for mechanical components, soft seating, upholstery and writable laminate surfaces.

What Does VS America’s 12-Year Limited Warranty Mean?

VS America’s limited warranty means that most VS America products are protected against qualifying defects in materials and craftsmanship for 12 years from the date of delivery, unless a different warranty period is specified for a particular material or component.

For customers, this means that VS America may repair, replace or provide credit for a covered product that fails during normal use because of a manufacturing or material defect.

The warranty is provided to the initial customer and remains valid only for as long as that initial customer owns the furniture. It does not transfer when the product is sold, donated or transferred to another owner.

A 12-year limited warranty does not mean that every part of the furniture is guaranteed to remain in like-new condition for 12 years. The warranty covers defects in materials and craftsmanship—not normal wear, cosmetic deterioration, environmental damage or consumable parts that naturally require replacement.

    What Is Covered?

VS America’s standard 12-year limited warranty generally covers defects in:

    • Original materials
    • Product construction
    • Manufacturing
    • Craftsmanship
    • Structural components, unless a shorter product-specific warranty applies

Coverage begins on the date the furniture is delivered and applies when the product is used normally and in an appropriate environment.

When VS America determines that a defect qualifies under the warranty, it may, at its discretion:

    • Repair the defective product
    • Replace the product or component with a comparable item
    • Provide a credit up to the original purchase price

VS America may require the product to be returned for inspection before approving a repair, replacement or credit.

    What Is Not Covered?

VS America’s warranty does not cover damage or deterioration caused by:

    • Normal wear and tear
    • Superficial or visual damage that does not affect the product’s use or safety
    • Worn consumable parts, including glides
    • Freight or shipping damage
    • Excessive humidity
    • Exposure to unsuitable environmental conditions
    • Corrosion
    • Swelling
    • Mold or mildew
    • Outdoor use, unless the product is specifically approved for outdoor use
    • Customer modifications that were not approved by VS America

Freight damage is handled separately under VS America’s shipping and freight terms and is not processed as a standard product warranty claim.

    Product-Specific Warranty Periods

Although most VS America products carry a 12-year limited warranty, certain materials, components and product features have shorter warranty periods.

Most VS America Products — 12-Year Warranty

Most products supplied by VS America are covered for 12 years from the date of delivery, unless otherwise noted.

This coverage applies to qualifying defects in materials and craftsmanship that become apparent during normal product use.

The warranty is provided to the initial customer and remains valid only while that customer continues to own the furniture.

    Mechanical Components — Five-Year Warranty

Mechanical components are covered for five years from the date of delivery.

Mechanical components may include moving, adjusting or operating mechanisms incorporated into a product. Depending on the product, these could include adjustment mechanisms, moving assemblies or similar functional components.

The five-year warranty applies specifically to the mechanical component. The remaining nonmechanical portions of the furniture may continue to be covered by the standard 12-year warranty.

Soft Seating Elements — Five-Year Warranty

Soft seating elements are covered for five years from the date of delivery.

This coverage applies to qualifying defects in the soft seating portions of VS America products. Normal compression, changes in appearance and deterioration associated with ordinary use are not considered manufacturing defects.

The structural portions of the furniture may remain covered under the standard 12-year warranty when applicable.

Standard Fabrics and Upholstery — Five-Year Warranty

Standard fabrics and upholstery supplied by VS America are covered for five years from the date of delivery.

The warranty applies to qualifying defects in the original upholstery materials. It does not cover ordinary wear, staining, fading, cuts, punctures, misuse, improper cleaning or other damage that occurs after delivery.

Customer’s Own Material, commonly identified as COM, is specifically excluded from VS America’s warranty.

    Customer’s Own Material

COM refers to fabric or another upholstery material selected and supplied by the customer rather than provided through VS America’s standard upholstery program.

Because VS America does not manufacture or control customer-supplied upholstery materials, COM is not covered under the VS America warranty. Any applicable material warranty would need to be addressed through the original textile supplier.

    Writable Laminates — Three-Year Warranty

Writable laminate surfaces are covered for three years from the date of delivery.

This limited warranty applies to qualifying defects in the writable laminate material. It does not cover ordinary marking, staining, ghosting, scratching, improper cleaning or damage caused by using unsuitable markers or cleaning products.

Customers should follow VS America’s cleaning and maintenance recommendations to preserve the writable surface and maintain warranty eligibility.

    Third-Party Products and Components

Some VS America products may contain materials or components manufactured by another supplier.

For third-party-supplied products, VS America states that it will pass along any warranty coverage it receives from the original manufacturer. The warranty period and available remedy for those products may therefore be determined by the third-party manufacturer rather than by VS America’s standard warranty.

Summary of VS America Warranty Periods

Product, material or component Warranty period
Most VS America products 12 years
    Mechanical components 5 years
    Soft seating elements 5 years
Standard fabrics and upholstery 5 years
Customer’s Own Material, or COM Not covered
    Writable laminates 3 years
Third-party-supplied products Original manufacturer’s applicable warranty

All stated VS America warranty periods begin on the date of delivery. The warranty applies to the initial customer and remains valid only while that customer owns the product.

    Normal Wear and Cosmetic Changes

VS America’s warranty does not cover normal wear and tear.

    Examples may include:

    • Scratches or scuffs resulting from ordinary use
    • Surface or finish changes that do not affect safety or functionality
    • Minor cosmetic imperfections
    • Upholstery wear
    • Normal compression of cushioning
    • Worn glides or similar consumable parts
    • Visual damage that does not interfere with the product’s intended use

A cosmetic issue generally must affect the product’s use, function or safety before it may be considered a qualifying warranty defect.

    Environmental and Indoor-Use Requirements

Unless a VS America product is explicitly approved for outdoor use, it should be installed and used in a climate-controlled indoor environment.

Warranty coverage does not include damage caused by exposure to excessive humidity or other unsuitable environmental conditions.

    Excluded environmental damage includes:

    • Corrosion of metal components
    • Swelling of wood or composite materials
    • Mold
    • Mildew
    • Moisture-related deterioration
    • Damage caused by unauthorized outdoor use

Schools and organizations should maintain appropriate indoor temperature and humidity levels to help protect the furniture and preserve warranty eligibility.

    Product Alterations and Modifications

Customer modifications are not covered unless they have been approved by VS America.

Examples of potentially excluded modifications may include:

    • Drilling new holes into the furniture
    • Cutting or altering tabletops
    • Adding unauthorized hardware
    • Changing structural components
    • Installing accessories not approved for the product
    • Modifying electrical or mechanical components
    • Performing unauthorized repairs

Customers should contact D&D Learning Spaces before altering a VS America product when there is any concern that the change could affect the warranty.

    Freight Damage

Damage that occurs during transportation or delivery is not covered by the standard VS America product warranty.

Freight damage is handled under separate shipping and freight claim procedures. Customers should inspect delivered furniture promptly and report visible or concealed shipping damage as soon as possible.

Photographs of the packaging, shipping labels and damaged product should be retained to support a freight claim.

What Will VS America Do for an Approved Claim?

If VS America determines that a product is defective under the applicable warranty, it may choose to:

    • Repair the defective product
    • Replace the defective product
    • Replace the affected component with a comparable component
    • Provide a credit up to the product’s original purchase price

VS America determines which remedy is appropriate. The customer does not automatically have the right to select between repair, replacement or credit.

VS America also reserves the right to request that the affected product be returned for inspection before a warranty remedy is approved.
