The important part of the implementation of this project is that the furniture isn’t assigned to only one classroom layout. A teacher could begin the day with the VS EcoTables facing the instructional area for direct instruction. Then later, move desks into small groups for collaborative work, or use the four ThumbPrint tables for a focused team project. The Hokki stools come into most learning activities as needed. It is also important to note that the PantoSwing cantilever chairs allow subtle movement even when students are working at their normal desks.

The teacher’s instructional station is the VS Shift+ Interact lectern rather than relying exclusively on a conventional teacher desk at the front of the room. The Interact teacher lectern is mobile and height-adjustable, allowing the teacher to transition between presenting at the front of the classroom, circulating through student groups, and working directly alongside students. Its mobility is particularly important to the overall concept because the teacher is no longer anchored to one location while the students are working in flexible configurations.

Standardizing the core package—same EcoTable, PantoSwing, Hokki, ThumbPrint, Interact and teacher EcoTable families—makes replacement, maintenance, classroom moves and future expansion considerably easier. Individual teachers could still arrange their rooms differently without the district having to purchase a completely different furniture package for every classroom!
