Carpets for Kids Limited Wear Warranty Summary

D&D Learning Spaces is an authorized dealer for Carpets for Kids. Carpets for Kids manufactures educational area rugs, classroom carpets, seating rugs, solid-color rugs and other floor coverings designed for schools, early-learning centers, libraries and childcare environments.

Carpets for Kids provides an abrasive-wear warranty on all of its children’s carpets, with coverage periods ranging from five years to a lifetime depending on the collection. Most collections also include the company’s No Fault Edge Warranty, which provides ongoing repair coverage for damaged serged rug edges.

What Does the Carpets for Kids Wear Warranty Mean?

The Carpets for Kids wear warranty protects qualifying rugs against excessive loss of carpet fiber caused by normal classroom use.

Carpets for Kids guarantees that a covered carpet will not lose more than 10 percent of its carpet fiber through abrasion during the applicable warranty period. Abrasive wear refers to fiber loss or the wearing down of the carpet pile—not ordinary changes in appearance caused by flattening, crushing, matting, stains or furniture pressure.

For customers, this means that Carpets for Kids may replace a covered rug if normal classroom foot traffic causes the carpet fiber to wear beyond the manufacturer’s stated limit during the applicable warranty period.

If the identical rug is no longer available, Carpets for Kids may allow the customer to select a replacement from available carpets of comparable quality.

A lifetime limited abrasive-wear warranty does not mean that the entire rug is guaranteed against every kind of damage indefinitely. It applies specifically to excessive fiber loss caused by abrasion under normal use. Stains, spills, burns, cuts, matting, crushing, improper cleaning and other excluded conditions are not covered as abrasive wear.

Who Is Covered?

Carpets for Kids requires the customer to provide the original invoice or other documentation showing the purchase date as proof of warranty coverage.

Customers should retain:

  • The original D&D Learning Spaces invoice
  • The purchase-order number
  • The Carpets for Kids product name
  • The rug collection
  • The product or item number
  • The original purchase date
  • Photographs of the rug
  • Cleaning and maintenance records when available

The manufacturer’s website does not expressly state that its warranty transfers to a subsequent owner. Customers purchasing a used, donated or transferred rug should therefore not assume that the original warranty remains available.

What Is Covered?

Carpets for Kids’ abrasive-wear warranties cover qualifying carpet-fiber loss caused by normal use in classrooms and similar educational spaces.

Covered abrasive wear is defined as:

  • Fiber loss caused by ordinary classroom traffic
  • Wearing down of the carpet fiber through normal classroom use
  • Abrasive wear exceeding the manufacturer’s stated 10-percent limit during the applicable warranty period

When Carpets for Kids confirms that a rug qualifies under the wear warranty, it may replace the carpet according to the applicable usage schedule. If the original design is unavailable, the customer may be offered a rug of comparable quality.

What Is Not Covered?

Carpets for Kids does not consider the following conditions to be manufacturing defects or covered abrasive wear:

  • Improper installation
  • Damage caused by pets
  • Tears
  • Spills
  • Cuts
  • Pilling
  • Shedding
  • Matting
  • Crushing
  • Burns
  • Improper maintenance
  • Improper cleaning methods
  • Furniture-foot indentations
  • Damage to backing systems where specifically excluded
  • Damage caused by sharp objects
  • Damage caused by vacuum-cleaner beater bars or cleaning equipment

These conditions may affect a rug’s appearance or serviceability, but they are not considered fiber loss caused by normal abrasive classroom wear.

What Is Limited Abrasive Wear?

Limited abrasive wear is the loss or wearing down of carpet fiber caused by ordinary use.

Carpets for Kids states that a covered rug should not lose more than 10 percent of its carpet fiber through abrasion during the applicable warranty period.

The abrasive-wear warranty does not apply merely because a rug looks older or shows signs of ordinary use.

Conditions that are different from abrasive fiber loss include:

  • Flattened carpet pile
  • Matting
  • Crushing
  • Furniture indentations
  • Stains
  • Discoloration
  • Pilling
  • Shedding
  • Cuts
  • Tears
  • Burns
  • Edge damage

A warranty evaluation may therefore distinguish between actual carpet-fiber loss and a change in appearance caused by pressure, soil, cleaning or physical damage.

Furniture Indentations

Indentations caused by furniture feet are excluded from the abrasive-wear warranty.

Schools and childcare facilities can help reduce indentation by:

  • Using furniture glides appropriate for carpet
  • Avoiding narrow or sharp furniture feet
  • Moving furniture periodically
  • Using protective furniture cups where appropriate
  • Avoiding prolonged concentrated loads on one area of the rug

Furniture indentations are caused by compression rather than abrasive loss of carpet fiber and are not considered a covered manufacturing defect.

Stain-Protection Features

Different Carpets for Kids collections include either 20X or 25X Stain Protection.

These stain-protection systems are described as true stain-blocker treatments in which the fibers are fully saturated with the treatment. The manufacturer recommends hot-water extraction and states that harsh cleaning chemicals are not necessary for these treated rugs.

Stain protection is a product-performance feature, but it should not be interpreted as an unconditional warranty against every stain or spill.

Spills and staining are listed separately from abrasive wear and are not covered as carpet-fiber wear.

KIDply Backing

Many Carpets for Kids rugs use the company’s patented KIDply backing system.

KIDply is designed to provide:

  • Dimensional stability
  • Resistance to wrinkling
  • Resistance to creasing
  • Softness
  • Flexibility
  • Improved long-term rug performance

The presence of KIDply backing does not eliminate the need for proper placement, cleaning and maintenance.

The backing should not be exposed to cleaning methods, moisture conditions or physical handling that could damage the rug.

KID$Value SkidResist Backing

KID$Value Rugs use a rubberized SkidResist backing designed to grip smooth flooring.

The SkidResist backing system is specifically excluded from the KID$Value five-year abrasive-wear warranty.

Damage or deterioration involving the backing should therefore not automatically be treated as a covered carpet-fiber wear claim.

No Fault Edge Warranty

Most qualifying Carpets for Kids rugs include the No Fault Edge Warranty.

Under this program, Carpets for Kids will re-serge or replace the damaged edging of an eligible rug regardless of how long the rug has been used in the classroom.

The customer is responsible for shipping the rug to the Carpets for Kids Re-Serge Center. Carpets for Kids will then:

  • Re-serge the rug
  • Pay to ship it back to the customer
  • Provide packaging materials for the outgoing shipment when arranged through customer service

Free return shipping from Carpets for Kids is valid only within the continental United States.

Rugs Excluded From the Edge Warranty

KID$Value Rugs are excluded from the No Fault Edge Warranty.

Customers should verify the specific rug collection before assuming that damaged serging qualifies for no-fault edge repair.

Preventing Edge Damage

Carpets for Kids uses double-stitched serged edges designed for schools and childcare environments.

However, the serging can still be damaged by:

  • Sharp tools used to open the packaging
  • Scissors
  • Utility knives
  • Vacuum-cleaner beater bars
  • Cleaning equipment
  • Repeated catching or pulling
  • Improper handling

When unpacking a rug, customers should avoid cutting toward the rug or its serged edge.

During cleaning, vacuum equipment should not be allowed to pull the edge into a rotating beater bar.

Proper Cleaning and Maintenance

Improper cleaning and maintenance are excluded from warranty coverage.

Customers should follow the care instructions for the specific Carpets for Kids collection and should avoid:

  • Harsh chemicals not approved for the rug
  • Excessive water
  • Improper extraction methods
  • Abrasive cleaning equipment
  • Vacuuming the serged edge into a beater bar
  • Cleaning methods that stretch or distort the backing
  • Allowing moisture to remain trapped beneath the rug
  • Using unsuitable stain-removal products

For collections with 20X or 25X Stain Protection, Carpets for Kids recommends hot-water extraction without harsh chemicals.

Improper cleaning may permanently damage fibers, backing or edging and may prevent the damage from qualifying as a manufacturing or abrasive-wear defect.

Fire-Code and Flammability Information

Different Carpets for Kids collections meet different fire-code or flammability standards.

Many premium and solid-color collections meet or exceed:

  • NFPA 253 Class I requirements
  • Class I fire-code classifications

KID$Value Rugs and Mt. St. Helens Solids are listed as passing the CPSC FF1-70 standard for surface flammability of carpets and rugs.

Fire-code compliance is separate from warranty coverage. Customers should verify the certificate and standard applicable to the exact rug being specified for a school project.

What Will Carpets for Kids Do for an Approved Wear Claim?

If Carpets for Kids determines that a rug has experienced covered abrasive fiber loss exceeding its stated limit during the applicable warranty period, it may replace the carpet according to its warranty usage schedule.

If the identical rug is no longer available, the customer may select from a group of carpets of comparable quality.

Carpets for Kids determines whether the reported condition qualifies as abrasive wear rather than staining, matting, crushing, cutting or another excluded form of damage.

Warranty Liability Limitations

Carpets for Kids states that it is not liable for incidental or consequential damages arising from a warranty claim, whether the claim is based on contract, warranty, negligence, strict liability or another legal theory.

Some states do not allow all exclusions or limitations of incidental or consequential damages, so the limitation may not apply in every jurisdiction.

The warranty provides customers with specific legal rights, and customers may have additional rights that vary by state.

Warranty Claim Requirements

A Carpets for Kids abrasive-wear claim should include:
