Bretford Limited Product Warranty Summary
D&D Learning Spaces is an authorized dealer for Bretford products. Bretford manufactures charging carts, charging lockers, device-management systems, mobile power solutions, display carts, mobile workstations and related technology-support furniture for schools, businesses and institutional environments.
For Bretford products sold after June 1, 2020, the standard warranty is generally:
- Seven years for products manufactured by Bretford
- One, three, four or eight years for specific products and components identified in Schedule A
- A product-specific period stated in the applicable Statement of Work for products developed through Bretford Customization Services
The warranty covers qualifying defects in materials and workmanship during normal intended use.
What Does Bretford’s Seven-Year Limited Warranty Mean?
Bretford warrants to the end-use purchaser that products it manufactures will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for seven years, except where a different period is listed in Schedule A.
The warranty begins on:
- The documented date of purchase; or
- The date of manufacture when purchase documentation is not provided
For customers, this means Bretford may repair or replace a covered product if it fails during normal intended use and Bretford determines that the failure resulted from defective materials or workmanship.
Bretford may replace the product with:
- The same product; or
- A functionally equivalent product
The repair or replacement is provided without charge for the covered product, subject to Bretford’s warranty procedures and exclusions.
Who Is Covered?
Bretford’s warranty applies to the end-use purchaser.
The warranty is not assignable. This means warranty coverage does not automatically transfer when the product is:
- Resold
- Donated
- Transferred to another school or organization
- Acquired by a subsequent owner
Customers should retain:
- The original D&D Learning Spaces invoice
- The purchase-order number
- The Bretford model number
- The product serial number
- The documented purchase date
- The delivery and installation dates
- Photographs of the product
- Installation records
- Maintenance records
- Records of previous warranty service
If proof of purchase is unavailable, Bretford may use the product’s manufacture date to determine the remaining warranty period.
What Is Covered?
Bretford’s limited warranty covers qualifying defects in:
- Original materials
- Manufacturing
- Workmanship
- Bretford-manufactured product components
- Bretford software during the applicable Schedule A warranty period
- Labor associated with an approved warranty repair, when Bretford’s required procedures are followed
Depending on the product, covered components may include portions of the:
- Charging-cart structure
- Charging locker
- Device trays
- Electrical system
- Charging hub
- Power-management system
- Display-cart structure
- Mobile workstation
- Locks and hardware
- Other Bretford-manufactured components
The presence of a component in this list does not guarantee that every failure involving that component is covered. Bretford determines whether the condition resulted from defective materials or workmanship.
What Is Not Covered?
Bretford’s limited warranty does not cover:
- Product misuse
- Abuse
- Cosmetic damage
- Normal wear and tear
- Failure to follow instructions or user guides
- Improper installation
- Improper assembly
- Use outside the product’s intended application
- Acts of God
- Unauthorized service or repair
- Electrical power problems
- Parts or components not supplied by Bretford
- Unauthorized alterations or modifications
- Shipping damage, except an original Bretford shipment when covered by the purchase order
- Failure to perform preventive maintenance
- Damage caused by peripherals
- Damage caused by third-party software
- Vandalism
- Other external causes
Bretford is also not responsible for injury or loss associated with installation or use that does not strictly conform to its installation manuals, assembly instructions, technical bulletins and product literature.
Product-Specific Warranty Periods
Bretford’s standard warranty is seven years, but Schedule A assigns different periods to certain products and components.
Standard Bretford Products — Seven-Year Warranty
Bretford products that are not identified as exceptions in Schedule A generally carry a seven-year limited warranty.
Coverage begins on the documented purchase date or, when documentation is unavailable, the manufacture date.
The seven-year period applies to qualifying defects in materials and workmanship during normal intended use.
Bretford Customization Services — Statement-of-Work Warranty
Products developed through Bretford Customization Services, or BCS, do not automatically receive the standard seven-year term.
The warranty period is identified in the applicable:
- Statement of Work
- Custom-product documentation
- Project agreement
Unless the Statement of Work provides different terms, the remaining provisions and exclusions in Bretford’s standard limited warranty apply.
One-Year Warranty Products and Components
The following products and components carry a one-year limited warranty:
- Speakers and switches
- Gas-shock assemblies
- Locking components in TechGuard charging lockers
- Juice Mobile Power products and accessories
- Lightning cable packs
- USB-C cable packs
These components receive one year of coverage even when they are included with or installed in a Bretford product that otherwise has a longer warranty.

The following product families and components carry a three-year limited warranty.

Covered PowerSync Pro models include:
- PSPROTRAY10L

- HB717LL/A
- HGVA2LL/A
- HM962LL/A
- HKWH2LL/A
- HKWJ2LL/A
- HKWK2LL/A
The exact model number should be verified from the Bretford product label because similar products may have different warranty periods.
Eight-Year Warranty Products
Schedule A lists the following models with an eight-year limited warranty:
- HKPX2VC/A
- HKPY2VC/A
- HKPZ2VC/A
- HN9B2LL/A

- HPGZ2LL/A
- HPH02LL/A
- HRGD2LL/A
- HNQ52LL/A
The PDF lists HB717LL/A in both the four-year and eight-year sections. Because the published schedule is internally inconsistent for that model, the applicable warranty should be confirmed directly with Bretford using the product serial number and purchase date before representing a specific term.

Warranty periods do not restart or extend when a product is repaired or replaced under warranty.
Warranty Start Date
Bretford’s warranty begins on the:
- Documented date of purchase; or
- Date of manufacture when purchase documentation is not provided
Customers should therefore retain the original D&D Learning Spaces invoice and purchase-order records.
Without proof of purchase, the product may have less remaining coverage because the manufacture date can be earlier than the customer’s delivery or installation date.
Product Labels, Model Numbers and Serial Numbers
Bretford requires the product model number and serial number when a warranty claim is submitted.
The model number can be found on the Bretford label or warranty sticker attached to the product. The warranty document states that this label is commonly located on the underside of the product.
Customers should not:
- Remove the label
- Cover the label permanently
- Discard a damaged label
- Alter the serial number
- Dispose of the affected product before documenting the label
Photographs of the complete label should be included with the claim whenever possible.
Charging Carts and Device-Management Products
Bretford charging carts and device-management products contain structural, electrical and charging components that may carry different warranty periods.
For example, a cart’s main structure may qualify for the standard seven-year warranty while:
- Cables receive one-year coverage
- Electrical components receive three-year coverage
- Charging hubs receive three-year coverage
- Locking components receive one-year coverage
- Software receives the period assigned in Schedule A
Customers should identify the exact failed component rather than assuming that every part of a cart receives the same warranty period.
Electrical Components and Power Problems
Bretford excludes damage caused by electrical power problems.
Examples may include:
- Power surges
- Voltage fluctuations
- Improper building wiring
- Ungrounded receptacles
- Overloaded electrical circuits
- Unsupported power adapters
- Incorrect replacement components
- Lightning-related electrical damage
- External charging-device failures
Customers should:
- Use properly grounded electrical outlets
- Follow the product’s voltage requirements
- Avoid overloading circuits
- Use the supplied electrical components
- Follow Bretford’s charging instructions
- Use qualified personnel for electrical installation
- Contact Bretford before replacing an internal electrical component
A power-related failure caused by an external source may not qualify as a defect in Bretford materials or workmanship.
Software Warranty and Compatibility
Bretford software is covered for the warranty period specified in Schedule A.
However, the warranty does not apply to:
- Integration with customer devices that Bretford has not tested or recommended
- Integration with third-party software
- Unsupported hardware configurations
- Compatibility problems caused by an external platform
- Peripherals that damage the Bretford product
Bretford also does not guarantee that software will operate continuously or without errors.
Customers should verify compatibility before deploying:
- New device models
- New operating-system versions
- Third-party charging applications
- Device-management software
- Unsupported cables or adapters
- Modified network configurations
Batteries and Battery Cycles
Selected Bretford products contain batteries with warranty periods that differ from the main product structure.
The Cordless Explorer Display Cart schedule identifies the BPS 1024 battery system with:
- Three-year coverage
- A listed rating of 2,000 cycles
Battery performance naturally changes through:
- Charging cycles
- Product age
- Storage conditions
- Temperature exposure
- Usage patterns
- Charging practices
Customers should follow all Bretford charging, storage and preventive-maintenance requirements.
Failure to perform preventive maintenance is specifically excluded from warranty coverage.
Gas-Shock Assemblies
Gas-shock assemblies carry a one-year limited warranty.
These components may be used to assist with:
- Opening
- Closing
- Height adjustment
- Display positioning
- Movement of hinged components
Damage caused by forcing, impact, improper adjustment or unauthorized replacement may not qualify.
Customers should discontinue use and report the condition if a gas shock:
- Stops supporting the intended load
- Leaks
- Becomes bent
- Separates from its mounting point
- Causes uncontrolled movement
Locks and Security Components
Locking components in TechGuard charging lockers carry a one-year limited warranty.
Coverage applies to qualifying defects in materials and workmanship, not to:
- Lost keys
- Forgotten combinations
- Forced entry
- Vandalism
- Broken locks caused by misuse
- Unauthorized lock replacement
- Damage caused by incompatible security hardware
The main locker structure may have a longer warranty than its locking components.
Cables and Connectors
Lightning and USB-C cable packs carry a one-year limited warranty.
A cable defect may qualify when it results from original materials or workmanship. The warranty does not cover damage caused by:
- Pulling the cable
- Crushing
- Pinching
- Repeated sharp bending
- Damaged device ports
- Liquid exposure
- Student misuse
- Incompatible devices
- External power problems
- Unauthorized cable replacement
Cables should be routed and managed according to Bretford’s instructions to reduce strain and damage.
Proper Installation and Intended Use
Bretford products must be installed and used in strict conformance with:
- Installation manuals
- Supplemental assembly instructions
- Technical bulletins
- Product literature
- User guides
- Published product guidelines
Bretford excludes injury, loss or product damage caused by installation or use that does not follow these requirements.
Customers should contact D&D Learning Spaces before:
- Altering a charging cart
- Drilling into the frame
- Replacing electrical components
- Modifying ventilation
- Installing nonstandard charging equipment
- Changing the locking system
- Adding unapproved peripherals
- Performing structural repairs
Preventive Maintenance
Failure to perform preventive maintenance is excluded from Bretford’s warranty.
Depending on the product, preventive maintenance may include:
- Inspecting power cords
- Inspecting charging cables
- Tightening loose hardware
- Cleaning ventilation openings
- Removing dust and debris
- Inspecting casters and brakes
- Checking locks and hinges
- Testing charging functions
- Following battery-storage procedures
- Replacing worn maintenance components
- Reviewing software and firmware requirements
Customers should retain maintenance records when possible, especially for battery-powered or electrically operated products.
Freight and Shipping Damage
Shipping damage is not covered except when it involves the original shipment from Bretford and the purchase order provides coverage.
Customers should inspect shipments promptly and retain:
- Cartons
- Pallets
- Protective packaging
- Shipping labels
- Delivery receipts
- Bills of lading
- Photographs before unpacking
- Photographs of visible damage
- Photographs of concealed damage
- Product model and serial numbers
Visible damage should be noted on the delivery receipt before it is signed.
D&D Learning Spaces should be notified promptly so the issue can be handled as a freight claim rather than incorrectly submitted as a manufacturing-warranty claim.
Unauthorized Repairs and Modifications
Bretford excludes damage caused by unauthorized service, repairs, alterations or parts not supplied by Bretford.
Customers should not:
- Open electrical enclosures
- Modify internal wiring
- Replace components with non-Bretford parts
- Weld or drill into the product
- Alter the charging system
- Replace locks without authorization
- Modify software
- Arrange third-party repair
- Dispose of defective parts
- Incur repair labor without written approval
Unauthorized work may eliminate warranty eligibility and may create electrical or safety risks.
What Will Bretford Do for an Approved Claim?
If Bretford determines that the defect is covered, it may, at its sole discretion:
- Repair the product
- Replace the product
- Replace it with a functionally equivalent product
- Direct the customer to return the product to Bretford
- Arrange on-site repair
- Direct the customer to an approved third party for repair
Bretford is responsible for approved repair labor when the customer follows the required process.
Labor expenses must be approved by Bretford before repairs are performed.
Labor Preapproval
Customers must receive Bretford’s approval before incurring labor expenses for a warranty repair.
The customer should not independently hire:
- An electrician
- A technology integrator
- A furniture installer
- A locksmith
- A battery-service company
- Another repair contractor
and expect automatic reimbursement.
Bretford determines whether:
- On-site service is appropriate
- The product should be returned
- A third-party repair provider should be used
- Labor is approved
- Repair or replacement is the correct remedy
Return Material Authorization
A Return Material Authorization, or RMA, is required before a product is returned to Bretford for service or replacement.
Customers should not ship equipment until Bretford has provided:
- An RMA number
- The correct return address
- Packaging instructions
- Identification of the components to be returned
- Any required shipping documentation
Unauthorized returns may be delayed or refused.
Warranty Period After Repair or Replacement
A warranty repair or replacement does not renew or extend the original warranty period.
For example, replacing a covered component near the end of the original warranty does not create a new seven-year warranty.
The repaired or replacement product remains covered only for the remaining portion of the original warranty, unless Bretford provides different written terms.
Non-Warranty Repairs
Bretford Customer Experience may assist with products damaged for reasons that are not covered by the limited warranty.
Non-warranty repairs or replacements carry a 90-day limited warranty beginning:
- When the repaired or replacement product is received; or
- Upon installation when the product is returned to service
The same general limitations and exclusions apply.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bretford excludes responsibility for direct, special, incidental or consequential damages, including:
- Loss of use
- Lost revenue
- Lost profits
- Lost savings
- Lost business
- Lost opportunity
- Loss of goodwill
- Reputational loss
- Lost or corrupted data
- Replacement equipment
- Data recovery
- Reprogramming
- Reproducing software or data
- Loss of confidential information
Some states and countries do not permit all warranty limitations, so customers may have additional legal rights.
